Cairns Tourism (cairnstourism.com.au) is an independent travel guide written by two travellers who call Cairns home. We are not a government agency, an official tourism body, a tour operator or a safety authority. This page sets out the basis on which the site is provided.
General information only
Everything on this site is general travel information, published in good faith and fact-checked against primary sources at the time of writing. It is not professional advice of any kind, and it is not a substitute for official safety information, signage or the directions of authorities on the ground. Conditions in Tropical North Queensland change quickly: weather, water levels, track closures, stinger presence, crocodile sightings, tour schedules and business details can all change after we publish, sometimes the same day.
Natural hazards and your safety
Far North Queensland’s environment carries real risks, including crocodiles, marine stingers, flash flooding, strong currents, remote terrain and tropical weather. Where we describe swimming spots, walks, beaches or waterways, we do so as general information only. You are responsible for your own safety decisions. Always obey official signage and warning systems, swim only at patrolled locations between the flags, follow the advice of lifeguards and rangers, check Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service park alerts, Surf Life Saving Queensland beach reports and Bureau of Meteorology warnings before you go, and never enter water that official sources say is closed or unsafe. If anything on this site appears to conflict with official signage or advice, the official source is always right and this site is always wrong.
Accuracy
We verify facts against primary sources before publishing and update guides when we learn things have changed, but we make no warranty that any information is accurate, complete or current at the time you read it. Confirm critical details (opening hours, closures, conditions, prices) with the operator or authority directly before relying on them.
Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cairns Tourism and its writers exclude all liability for any loss, damage, injury or death arising directly or indirectly from the use of, or reliance on, any information on this site, or from participation in any activity described on it. Nothing on this page excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the Australian Consumer Law.
Third parties, links and bookings
We link to external websites and to booking platforms, and some links earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. We do not operate any tours or attractions. Your contract for any tour, activity or accommodation is with the operator or booking platform, on their terms, and we are not responsible for the content, accuracy or conduct of any third party site or business.
