Nobody plans a market trip by market. They plan it by day. It is Saturday, you are up early, what is on.
So that is how this is organised. Every date and time below came from the market’s own website or the council’s own calendar, checked on 9 September 2026, because the aggregator listings for Cairns markets are wrong often enough to waste your morning. More on that at the bottom, with receipts.
Every day of the week
| Day | What is on |
|---|---|
| Monday | Kuranda Original Rainforest Markets, 9.30am to 3pm. Cairns Night Markets, which open every day of the year. |
| Tuesday | Kuranda Original Rainforest Markets, 9.30am to 3pm. Cairns Night Markets. |
| Wednesday | Kuranda Original Rainforest Markets, 9.30am to 3pm. Kuranda Heritage Markets, 10am to 3.30pm. Cairns Night Markets. |
| Thursday | Both Kuranda markets. Cairns Night Markets. |
| Friday | Rusty’s Markets, 5am to 4pm. Both Kuranda markets. Cairns Night Markets. Redlynch Twilight Markets, but on only four Fridays a year, 5pm to 8.30pm. |
| Saturday | Rusty’s Markets, 5am to 4pm. Both Kuranda markets. Then the monthlies: Gordonvale Cottage Markets on the first Saturday, Smithfield on the second, Yungaburra on the fourth. |
| Sunday | Rusty’s Markets, 5am to 3pm. Both Kuranda markets. Port Douglas Markets, 8am to 1.30pm. Then the monthlies: Palm Cove on most first Sundays, Tanks Markets on the last Sunday from April to November. |
The short version: something is always on in Kuranda, Rusty’s runs Friday to Sunday and nothing else, and the rest of it is monthly.
The two that run nearly every day
Rusty’s Markets at 57-89 Grafton Street is the one locals mean when they say the markets. Around 180 stalls of tropical produce, seafood, bread, coffee and flowers. Friday and Saturday 5am to 4pm, Sunday 5am to 3pm, and closed the rest of the week. Go early, because by mid morning on a Saturday it is shoulder to shoulder. We have a full guide to Rusty’s if you want the detail.
Kuranda has two separate markets and most people assume they are weekend only. They are not. The Original Rainforest Market runs every day, 9.30am to 3pm, and the Heritage Markets run Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 3.30pm. That is the single most useful thing on this page if you are planning a Skyrail or train day, because it means a Monday trip up the range is not a wasted one.
Cairns Night Markets at 54-60 Abbott Street are open every day of the year, including Christmas Day, with around 70 shops plus a food court. Their own site does not publish a single opening time, so we are not going to invent one. Our night markets guide has the practical detail.

The monthly ones, and the ones that skip months
This is where people come unstuck, because half the internet will tell you these are simply monthly and several of them are not.
| Market | When | Hours | Where | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gordonvale Cottage Markets | First Saturday, every month | 7am to 12pm | Norman Park, Gordonvale | The only genuinely reliable monthly on the council calendar. Runs February to December without a gap. |
| Smithfield Community Markets | Second Saturday | From 8.30am | Smithfield Shopping Centre | Council supported rather than council run. |
| Yungaburra Markets | Fourth Saturday | 7.30am to 12.30pm | Bruce Jones Market Grounds, Yungaburra | Up to 260 stalls. Run by the Yungaburra State School P and C since 1977. Their own site warns it is the fourth Saturday, not necessarily the last. |
| Palm Cove Markets | Most first Sundays, but NOT monthly | 8am to 2pm | Williams Esplanade, Palm Cove | No market in February, April or September 2026, and the March one ran on the 29th. |
| Tanks Markets | Last Sunday, April to November, but NOT August | 8am to 1pm | Tanks Arts Centre, Collins Avenue, Edge Hill | Free entry. Art, craft, produce, vintage, live music. |
| Redlynch Twilight Markets | Four Fridays a year | 5pm to 8.30pm | Redlynch | 1 May, 17 July, 4 September and 4 December in 2026. No website, contact is an email address. |
| Carnival on Collins | Once a year, Father’s Day | 9am to 2pm | Collins Avenue, Edge Hill | Over 200 stalls, part of Cairns Festival. Fell on 6 September in 2026. |
Two of those deserve saying again. Palm Cove is not a monthly market. In 2026 it does not run in February, April or September, and the March one moved to the 29th. And Tanks skips August, despite the council’s own web page saying it runs every month from April to November. We are going by the council’s printed calendar, which is the document with the dates on it.
Sunday is the big one
If you only have one morning, make it Sunday. Rusty’s is open, both Kuranda markets are open, and Port Douglas runs 8am to 1.30pm, which is the one worth the hour’s drive north if you have never done it. Add a first Sunday and you get Palm Cove as well, which pairs neatly with a swim and lunch at the Palm Cove end of the day.

Where the internet gets this wrong
We are showing our working here because it explains why this page exists.
Tropical North Queensland’s own visitor site lists Rusty’s as trading until 6pm on Friday and Saturday. Rusty’s own website says 4pm. It lists the Kuranda markets as Thursday to Sunday. Kuranda’s village site says one runs daily and the other from Wednesday. It lists Palm Cove as the first Sunday of every month, which the council’s own calendar contradicts three times over.
None of that is anyone being careless on purpose. Market times drift and listings do not get updated. It is just a good reason to check the operator rather than the roundup, which is what we did for every line above.
What we have not verified
Two markets we know exist but have not been able to confirm at the source, so they are not in the tables above. Mossman Markets, listed by the regional tourism body as Saturday 8am to 1.30pm under the rain trees in town. And Malanda and Atherton, which appear on various lists without a consistent day between them.
If you run one of these, or you know the current day and time, tell us and we will add it with a link to your own page.
Everything else here was read from the operator or the council on 9 September 2026. Market days move, especially around Easter and the Cairns Festival, so if you are driving more than half an hour for one, check before you go.
