Sharing delights has rewards
Born and raised in Cairns, Adrian Baxter wants visitors to experience
the delights of the region he grew up in.
The lobby co-ordinator at Rydges Esplanade Resort, he is in constant
touch with guests - check-ins, concierge services, trouble shooting and
selling tours.
"I want to make sure they can experience what I have experienced,"
he said.
His dedication to service over the past two years earned him the Cairns
Tourism Association's top hospitality prize - the Kamsler Award - announced
on Saturday night.
Mr Baxter, 25, has worked in hospitality since leavingWoree High School
and spent several years working in the industry in Great Britain.
Only one point separated the top two contenders, with Reef Palms Motel
receptionist Jo Fitzgerald coming sedcond and receiving the Special Mention
Award.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service was presented with a $1375 cheque from
money raised through the CTA raffles during the year.
About 85 people attended the presentation on board Ocean Spirit.
Mr Baxter won two return flights to Hong Kong from Australian Airlines
and five nights accommodation with Accor. Ms Fitzgerald won a four night cruise
with Captain Cook Criuses.
